Depth of Field Study

I had the occasion to be explaining to the gentleman who sits next to me at work about depth of field. When I updraged to the Leica D-Lux4, I gave him my Olympus Stylus, because he had just had a child, and I was not going to need it anymore. He had some questions about how to get an object entirely in focus in order to post images of it on the web. So I pulled out my trust D-Lux4 and took three picture of hand sanitizer bottles set in a row. The first has a narrow depth of field (aperture was around F2). The second was taken at around F8 for a deeper depth of field. The third back at F2, but from further away (so the distance from the front bottle to the back bottle was smaller relative to the distance from the front bottle to the lens). then I showed him the 3 images and Viola! He knew at least 2 ways to increase the depth of field (and also it was nice break in the day!)

Small World

I have several friends that are from India, and also some currently living in India as well. Some of them are rather close friends, in fact, which sometimes makes India seem very far away indeed. However I am reminded that we live in a connected world, without which, becoming friends with them in the first place would not have been possible. So as I was walking to my car from the Barnes and Noble's in Triangle Town Center, I noticed one of the metal covers in the sidewalk had "Made in India" stamped into it. A few feet later, there was another one. I walked back and took a picture with my camera phone of both of them(oddly enough I had my Leica M8 with me in a bag, but it was a little misty/rainy, so I decided not to pull it out). On the way back to the car I noticed the manhole cover in the street was also made in India. The world just got a little smaller, and that makes me smile!

One for the Ladies!

At the same location as the softball game there are beach volleyball courts, and of course a shower to rinse of the sand (of course). Oddly enough, a gentleman was doing just that, and I thought I would share for the benefit of the ladies in the audience. Now I have no control over the Choice of model, if you are that picky, send me a few bucks each, and your specifications, and I might be able to work something out. Until then...Enjoy!

Game of the Week (Redux - Part 2)

Ok, so my titles are getting derivative.... just look at the images, okay?

No Quit in Him

One of the opposing players made a spectacular attempt at getting to a ball and even sacrificed his body to get there. The best part was how even after he rolled over and his teammates were arriving to get the ball and throw it back into the infield he was still reaching for the ball! I salute you, Sir. There's no quit in you at all , is there?

Game of the Week (Redux)

After last week's wedding, things kinda slowed down a bit. Summer Heat soccer season has ended and I have had a few days with no shooting at all. I spent time at a friend's house, and even an evening at home! But Thursday brought another softball game, in fact, the end of the regular season. If they won they had sole possession of first place and the number one seed in the playoffs. Now they were playing another team from the same company, so the shirts are the same, and it is hard to tell who was winning, but to save you the suspense, I will tell you that they won! Just for the record, my soccer friends finished in first place too; I am sure it was all the photo support!

CONGRATS FELLAS! Well Done!

Judd Reception (Part 2)

Judd Reception

Here are some images from the wedding reception Saturday. Some of the actual wedding images are on my other blog, Visual Greed, where I post images that are posed or staged. Since the reception is mostly candids, I am posting these here. I hope that makes sense.

Apex Temple

These were some of the images I took in order to see how the light was falling. these were in the morning and the wedding was in the afternoon, so I knew the sun would be on the other side of the building, so I wanted to be sure I did not have the sun in the party's eyes (causing squinting) or have them so poorly lit. 3pm shoots are hard enough, and I wanted to make sure I did all I could to make sure I did not run out of talent! You only get one shot with weddings, so the most crucial thing (besides people skills and knowledge of your equipment)is your preparation!

On the Road to Apex

Saturday, I had to photograph a wedding at the Apex Temple, and so I got up fairly early and went there to scout some sites (this came up without a lot of advanced notice, so my normal planning time was truncated). On the drive there, I noticed a lone runner heading down a hill, so I turned off and spent a few minutes making these images.

Team III Gets it Done

After having left the first game just prior to the "slaughter rule" being applied, I found the other team handling their business as well. I had friends on the other and a loss would have helped my work teammates, but Team III won in spite of me. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for them, and didn't really root against them, but next week, when the two teams play each other, I just might.

Bounceback!

After the painful loss last week, the team bounced back with a vengeance! Like a small dog chasing a frightened boy, they pursued their prey without ceasing. In the end, the referee had to supply relief by invoking the "mercy rule" and ending the game early. I left when it was 14-0 to photograph the end of the other team's game.
