Canak

For lunch on day three we went to a place called Canak (for proper spelling, see the actual picture; i don't have that character on my keyboard). It had traditional Turkish food from the south eastern part of the country (there are different regional styles, just like in the US). we had a variety of dishes including: greens and radishes, goat cheese, olives and butter, Pide ( the bread that came before we even ordered), yaprak sarma (rice and minced meat wrapped in grape leaves), icli kofte (kinda looks like a Hush Puppy, but wait....it has minced beef and seasonings inside! it was really good! ), gavurdagi salatasi (a kind of "super salsa" with walnuts and mint), lahmacun ( a flat tortilla looking bread with seasonings on it; the greens and radish gets rolled up in here and eaten almost burrito style),  kuzu tandir & firik pilavi (lamb slow cooked in a tandor; it was amazingly tender and even more delicious),  and doner (kinda like a better version of the Gyro) . It was all amazing! the Pilaf was especially tasty, I could have eaten a bathtub full of it! (it was that good, but I did not actually do that)!

the rest of the day was spent shopping (actually window shopping, not actually buying anything) so there was not a lot else photoworthy. Tomorrow should be the covered bazaar, so I think there will be lots to show!

  2. it was about 36 Turkish Lira. The current exchange is around 1,8TL per $, so you can do the math (hint:$20 or about $10 per person)
