David Price Raises the Flag! (reposted)

US Representative David Price also presented Lowe's Grove Middle School in Durham with a flag that had flown over the Capitol Building. It was an emotional moment for me to see a US Representative help raise a flag over the school because it represented that the United States with all that was going on in the world, was aware of and watching over these children as well!

NC Legislators also in attendance (repost)

2 of our state legislators (Senator Floyd B. McKissick and Representative Henry M. Michaux, Jr. ) also made remarks, were very generous with their time and showed their support of the progress being made at Lowe's Grove Middle school in Durham . I thought it was really good sign to see the local school system so much on the mind of our elected representatives.

US Representative David Price was at Lowe's Grove Middle School in Durham making an appearance. He made some brief remarks about how as a former educator, he appreciated the importance of a good education and also corporate involvement in the communities in which they reside. I had never previously been to an event in which he spoke, but I felt his remarks were sincere and right on point with the mood of the day's events. He was generous with his time and seemed to enjoy being able to participate in such an event.

If you build it, they will learn! (reposted)

Another upgrade to Lowe's Grove Middle school was the addition of an outdoor classroom to the grounds. It involved digging the holes to anchor the seats, building the benches, cementing them in and preparing the ground around the seating area with a liner and then sand. It was a lot of work to get done in one day, and it was the last project completed, but they got it done!

In helping out with the the landscaping, I am sure they also helped create a sense of excitement for when the students return.

A little landscaping was in order...(reposted)

There was another crew working on landscaping the natural areas in front of the school. They removed weeds and put down pine bark and really worked hard to make things lovely!

and stay on track! (reposted)

I ran into the coach, who was clearly a man who cared deeply about his students and was grateful for the help they received that day.

...and some help to get back on track... (reposted)

I was amazed that people would sit on asphalt in the hot sun and use screwdrivers to remove weeds, but that was exactly what people did! and it was hot on my feet just walking on it, I can't imagine what it would feel like on my...well...let's just say they were very selfless that day!

and a stock ticker... (reposted)

One of the guys from HandsOn Network installed an LED Stock Ticker in the cafeteria. He certainly took to his business and had it installed in short order. He was gracious enough to let me know so I could be there or I definitely would have missed it (or even had I blinked!) It will serve as a daily reminder of the importance of financial literacy and an inspiration to strive for excellence.
